The Method
Dolly has spent 30 years developing her unique method. Based on leading vocal science, and backed by a global community of voice experts at Vocology in Practice (ViP) as well as teachings and relationships with world class vocal coaches like Seth Riggs and Dave Stroud.
Using your body as a musical instrument requires the proper coordination of muscles to get the best results - a great sound! Activating the right muscles and relaxing those not required to make sound allows the instrument to function freely and as it was designed.
Most of us, however, learned to sing by imitating our favorite artists or trying to apply the vague direction from well intentioned choral directors ('sing from the diaphragm', 'give it more support', etc.). Learning specific exercises that allow these things to happen naturally is something everyone can do with proper practice and coaching! The result is a clear, strong and natural sound throughout your entire (extended!) range.
What to Expect from Vocal Training
You will learn to navigate your 'bridges' (or 'passagi' in Italian) in your vocal range that connect your lower notes (chest voice) to your higher notes (head voice) and develop a blended sound in the middle (middle voice) to eliminate any noticeable 'breaks' in your voice. This will allow you to retain strength of tone from your lowest notes all the way up to your highest notes.
You'll be able to sing for much longer periods of time without fatigue, throat pain or hoarseness that occurs with improper muscle coordination. Your sound will be uniquely yours as you explore any genre of music that interests you. With increased awareness of your musical instrument, you'll find variety and nuances to make your expression of a song completely unique, engaging and interesting to your audience.
With these skills and the confidence of some mastery over your voice, singing becomes art and much more enjoyable!
